What is our goals?
This is a beginner course in Spanish language and culture, meaning....you don't need to have any prior skills. You will develop them!!! Through comprehensible input, which includes reading, story-telling and listening, you will learn how to communicate in Spanish starting on DAY 1!!!! Will you be "fluent" by the end of your first year? Definitely not. But, you WILL be able to communicate (both written and spoken) about a wide variety of themes. ¡Qué chevere! (How cool!!!)
Final reflection of the YEar
In Spanish we learned a lot of things. Basic language and greetings, likes, dislikes, activities, and storytelling in Spanish is what we've learned for the most part. I've grown a lot in my listening ability of Spanish and my writing and spelling comprehension. I am very proud of my final assignment which is a book that we created and wrote on our own and presented at the all school exhibition. I'd like to go onto Spanish 2 and learn much more about the language. I think I would've liked to learn more about the culture this year.
Writing progress
Once a month (approximately), we wrote for 10 minutes (timed) using the vocabulary we had been learning in class. Each time, our goal was to grow our word count. Word count does NOT include proper nouns.
I’m proud of my ability to write this many words in the short amount of time we had. I’m not a fast writer and being able to see my progression of creating stories in another language at a good pace, and a decent word count felt like I've accomplished a lot for this course. There were times when I felt that I created an incomplete story and felt a little unhappy with myself, but when looking at the graph you could see my progress and how I was improving, which was nice to see. I noticed that I grew I alot in my spelling and word order that would be grammatically correct for spanish. I also noticed that my detail for characters would be in more depth and I can now describe characteristics better, in general I'm much better at imagery for any of the stories I would make and I think it's because we did the writing process.
Video Project
In our video projects, we described our families and friends using the verbs “ser” (to be) and “tener” to have
This project was probably one of my favorite projects we did in spanish 1. I enjoyed getting to make my own customized video and then getting to describe my friends and family in spanish. I had a hard time writing what I was going to say for my video, and then going to type that up on a document digitally. I also had a hard time with my grammar but that was fixed after Jenny proofread it. I learned a lot about editing and using my own resources because I was sick at home when doing this assignment so I learned a lot about time management too.
Mi Cuento Original
“My Original Story”
In this end-of-year project, we wrote and illustrated an original story using the vocabulary we learned throughout the year.
