Mean Girls ASSESSMENT
After watching the classic 2004 film Mean Girls the class was tasked with thinking about the stereotypes that are shown in the movie, and what it contributes to socialization. Then we wrote about how some of the stereotypes that appeared in the movie socialize teenagers. This assignment really stood out to me because it made me realize how many negative socializations come across to us in our daily lives without us concisely knowing how destructive it can be for us as people.
Mask Brainstorm

For an exhibition covering socialization which is what we've been focusing on in class since the beginning of the year, we were challenged to make a mask and an essay of how we've been socialized. Before getting right into creating our mask we brainstormed what we wanted to do on the mask. We were given a blank piece of paper to have as much creative flow, anything could go on it, the sky's the limit.
For my mask I wanted to have two main aspects on it; my hands covering my mask which is the stage in my life before I was heavily socialized by identity categories, such as age, identity, race, economic class, others around me e.c.t. I wanted to also put flowers which symbolized who I was before the impact of socialization. When you take away the hands the mask is more grim. I also used flowers that symbolize what I think came along with the socialization I got, and still experiencing. The mask will give off the effect of worn down or in a sense dead. I put a lot of thought into my mask brainstorm and I'm very happy on how I think it really show who I am.

Socialization and IDENTITY Project
The overview of this project was for us to reflect on how we've been socialized through the lens of sociology. We answered the essential questions; what is my identity, how has my identity been shaped from religion, family, friends, etcetera, how can we as humans break free from the cycle of socialization and find more positive impact? the final product we will have created by the end of it is:
Identity Mask: a mask that represents your identity and the formation of that identity.
Personal Reflective Essay: This essay should work together with your mask to create meaning and answer the essential questions of the project.
